The gaslights were actually managed by human beings and their lights powered by natural gas. The movement of traffic was directed by altering the light's colorings to communicate which lane of vehicular traffic had the permission to travel at any particular moment.

However, these kinds of machines turned out to be questionable in operational use, simply because they repeatedly blew out and also occasionally injured or hurt the operatives handling them.

During the early part of the 20th century, the moment vehicles stated becoming prominent, French law enforcement authorities erected a traffic light device on top of a high tower.

The signalling platform combined a rectangular steel rotating signal, enclosed inside a glass material casing. On each one of the rotating indicator's obverse sides, the phrase go was inscribed in white-colored text and the word Stop in burgundy text.

Fire departments and police all around America adopted this practice.

Also three calendar years down the road, the first set of traffic lights utilizing coordinated manual control were introduced. Adult men controlled this system by hand putting to use a switch system.
